Detox the Healthy Way

Have you been thinking about detoxing but been scared off by the idea? Lemon juice and cayenne pepper, grapefruit juice for days, and other assorted fad detox diets can sound as fun as going to the dentist. Not to mention it’s not very healthy.

A better idea? Natural cleansing. Your liver does a pretty good job on its own getting rid of toxins but if you would like to help it along there are many delicious foods you can work into your meals that will boost your energy and cleanse your body. Dump the cabbage soup and try some of these tasty treats.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is packed with calcium, iron, and manganese. It helps your body digest fatty acids and lowers blood sugar levels keeping your waistline trim.

Ginger

Ginger is not only great for aiding in digestion it also might keep your appetite under control. It also bumps up your metabolism and gets rid of waste.

Onions

Turns out onions have sulfur-filled amino acids which work to clean out the liver. Raw onions are more nutritious than cooked so try a ceviche or refreshing tomato cucumber salad.

Beets

These colorful babies are an excellent source of betacyanin which can help fight cancer. Beets are also full of iron, zinc, calcium, and magnesium, all good toxin flushers.

Apples

They’re high in pectin, a soluble fiber that removes food additives. Not to mention any sort of fiber is always good for cleansing the colon.
